2002
In 2002, His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al-Qasimi, a member of the Supreme Council and the Ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah, issued Law No. 1 to establish and define the goals and functions of the Economic Development Department.
1999
In 1999, the Economic Development Department and the Industrial Department merged to create a new department responsible for planning and implementing economic development projects. This new department also handled the preparation of laws, strategic planning, and the issuance of various licenses required for commercial, industrial, and service activities. It maintained control over economic firms operating in the Emirate of Sharjah.
1997
1997 witnessed the establishment of the Industrial Development Department.
1981
In April 1981, His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al-Qasimi issued Amiri Decree No. 18, officially founding “The Economic Department.” This marked the inception of the first local economic department in the United Arab Emirates.
