The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai proudly announces the completion of a significant road improvement initiative aimed at enhancing traffic flow and catering to the escalating residential demands in the vicinity.
Project Overview
Project Name: Algeria Street Improvement Project
Length: 2 km
Location: From the intersection of Algeria Street and Al Khawaneej Street (South) to the intersection of Tunis Street (North) at Al Muhaisnah (1) and Al Mizhar (1).

Key Achievements
- Widening of Algeria Street: The project involved expanding Algeria Street from the intersection of Street 11 near Al Khawaneej Street up to the intersection with Tunis Street, including Streets 27 and 31. This expansion increased the number of lanes from two to three in each direction, significantly boosting the road’s capacity from 6,000 to 9,000 vehicles per hour in both directions.
- Signalised Junction Implementation: The existing roundabout was transformed into a signalised junction, allowing for left turns and better serving the growing residential communities of Muhaisnah and Al Mizhar.
- Enhanced Infrastructure for Pedestrians and Cyclists: Algeria Street received notable enhancements, including dedicated cycling tracks and pedestrian zones on both sides, extending from Street 11 to Street 27 on the left side and from Street 27 to Tunis Street on the right side.
Impact on Travel Times
These comprehensive improvements have led to a remarkable reduction in travel times from Al Khawaneej Street to Tunis Street, decreasing from 15 minutes to just 7 minutes during peak hours. This represents a significant reduction of over 50%.
Additional Works
- Service Road Paving: A service road was paved along both sides of Algeria Street, seamlessly connecting with the service roads for Streets 27 and 31.
- Parking Facilities: Parallel parking spaces for villas on both sides and angle parking in areas adjacent to the junction of Algeria Street with Streets 27 and 31 were strategically provided, enhancing accessibility.
